Global Prebiotics Market Professional Survey Report 2021
Prebiotics are a group of nutrients that are degraded by gut microbiota. Their relationship with human overall health has been an area of increasing interest in recent years. They can feed the intestinal microbiota, and their degradation products are short-chain fatty acids that are released into blood circulation, consequently, affecting not only the gastrointestinal tracts but also other distant organs. Fructo-oligosaccharides and galacto-oligosaccharides are the two important groups of prebiotics with beneficial effects on human health. Rising consumer awareness with regards to the health benefits of prebiotics and increasing incorporation of fiber-rich foods in daily diet by consumers should raise the demand for prebiotic ingredients during the predicted period. Moreover, the rising incidence of gastrointestinal ailments among the global population is compelling consumers to look for food products made from nutrient-rich ingredients, which should escalate the demand for prebiotics. Increasing sports and physical fitness activities being undertaken in different regions of the world should raise the demand for prebiotic ingredients from sports nutrition products and dietary supplements and augment growth of the market during the assessment period.

1.6 Prebiotics Market Competitive Situation and Trends
1.6.1 Prebiotics Market Concentration Rate
The Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (HHI) is a common measure of market concentration that is used to determine market competitiveness. The Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (HHI) is a commonly accepted measure of market concentration. It is calculated by squaring the market share of each firm competing in a market and then summing the resulting numbers. It can range from close to zero to 10,000.
The Herfindahl Index (H) ranges from 1/N to one, where N is the number of firms in the market. Equivalently, if percents are used as whole numbers, as in 75 instead of 0.75, the index can range up to 1002, or 10,000.
An H below 0.01 (or 100) indicates a highly competitive industry, Mergers and acquisitions with an increase of 100 points or less will usually not have any anti competitive effects and will require no further analysis.
An H below 0.15 (or 1,500) indicates an unconcentrated industry. Mergers and acquisitions between 100 and 1500 points are unlikely to have anti-competitive effects and will most likely not need further analysis.
An H between 0.15 and 0.25 (or 1,500 to 2,500) indicates moderate concentration. Mergers and acquisitions that result in moderate market concentration from HHI increases will raise anti-competitive concerns and will require further analysis.
An H above 0.25 (above 2,500) indicates high concentration. Mergers and acquisitions with HHI scores of 2500 or above will be considered anti competitive and an in-depth analysis produced, if the scores are well above 2500 they are considered to enhance market power they may only be allowed to progress when significant evidence is shown that the merger or acquisition will not increase market power.
The concentration ratio is the percentage of market share owned by the largest n firms in an industry, where n is a specified number of firms. In this report, we present the CR5, means the market share of the five largest firms.
